Last week I had the pleasure of driving the car that started the “N” brand within Hyundai. Yes! Your friend Juan is test driving the 2022 Hyundai Veloster N.
The Veloster N was the start of true performance branding from Hyundai. On the outside you will discover the unique 3-door hatchback design, 19 inch wheels, and performance brakes.

On the inside you will be greeted by the updated Recaro style seats, leather wrapped N steering wheel, and analog gauges.
Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 turbocharged engine that is producing 275HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic dual clutch transmission. The 2022 Hyundai Veloster N pushes the driver to go faster and take sharp, hard turns. As a race car driver, I fall for it, every time and I tell you, the experience is awesome.
Even though the Veloster is a front-wheel drive, it handles corners really well. It kind of feels like the differential has been perpetually locked which makes the car super stiff and fun on the corners.
The 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is configured in a way that it reaches 100 km per hour just about five seconds; loaded with performance tyres and endowed with crisp and precise steering.
The absolute best part of the vehicle is its exhaust sound. When I say explosive, I really mean waking up the neighbors loud.
The Hyundai Veloster N remains as useful for two people as ever, it has super-snug sport seats and a vast cargo space that is equal to if not greater than a Tucson. The cabin however, needs more insulation from road and wind noise.
Fuel economy appears to be a bit of a concern for the Veloster N. It consumes 12L per 100 kilometers travelled and with the ricing fuel prices, this could be concern for some motorists.
The Veloster N is surely my choice of a hot hatch within a budget. It costs around AED 147,000 and while some people might consider it on the higher side, I’d say it is money well spent if you enjoy driving a race car.
