Stellantis and Saft, a TotalEnergies subsidiary, have launched a groundbreaking prototype vehicle featuring IBIS technology—a French research project revolutionizing electric powertrains.

Built on the Peugeot E-3008, this battery electric vehicle (BEV) integrates inverter and charger functions directly into the battery, simplifying design and boosting efficiency.

Key Benefits:

Efficiency Boost: Up to 10% better energy use and 15% more power (172 kW vs. 150 kW) with the same battery.

Lighter & Leaner: Cuts ~40 kg of weight and frees 17 liters of space for improved design and aerodynamics.

Faster Charging: Reduces charging time by 15% (e.g., 7 to 6 hours on a 7 kW charger) with 10% energy savings.

Sustainable Design: Simplifies maintenance and enhances battery reuse for automotive and stationary applications.

What’s Next?

Real-world testing is underway, with Phase 2 backed by France 2030. IBIS could hit Stellantis production vehicles by 2030 and expand to rail, aerospace, marine, and data centers, driving sustainable electrification forward.
