Changan Automobile has recently achieved a significant milestone in its pursuit of innovation within emerging industries by signing a partnership agreement with EHang Holdings Ltd. to jointly develop flying car technologies. This collaboration is expected to focus on creating advanced flying vehicles, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, which are electric vehicles capable of taking off and landing vertically without the need for a runway.

Together with EHang, a leading global platform for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) technology, Changan aims to combine their strengths to design cutting-edge transportation solutions that could unlock new economic opportunities. For instance, in China, the low-altitude economy, which involves activities like drone deliveries in airspace below 1,000 meters, is projected to be worth a trillion dollars by 2030.

“In the next five years, Changan will invest over AED 10.07 billion to accelerate the development of flying cars,” stated Changan Automobile Chairman Zhu Huarong. “Over the next decade, we plan to invest more than AED 50.33 billion to explore comprehensive transportation solutions spanning land, sea, air, and even humanoid robots.”

This initiative is in line with Changan’s long-term vision to continually push the boundaries of intelligent digital technologies and evolve into a leading “intelligent low-carbon mobility technology company.”

The signing ceremony with EHang also marked the opening of Changan’s Global Science and Art Center, a key part of the company’s Global R&D Center in Chongqing. The center will focus on cutting-edge research in science, technology, and design.

Over the next decade, Changan plans to invest more than AED 15.10 billion to establish a team of over 3,000 experts to advance fields like artificial intelligence, information technology, and innovations in customer experience and design.
