A vast majority of car dealerships across the Middle East are increasing their focus on data and digitization. The objective is to strengthen operational efficiency, sales performance and service delivery while competing in a more demanding automotive retail market.

According to Keyloop, a leading provider of automotive retail solutions, growing vehicle sales targets and higher customer expectations are placing considerable pressure on traditional dealership models. In response, 94 percent of automotive dealers in the region have turned to data and digitization for solutions.

KeyLoop: Data and Digitization

“Fragmented systems, manual processes and limited data visibility continue to constrain dealer performance in the region,” said Monzer Tohme, Managing Director for MEA and APAC at Keyloop. “As sales volumes grow, brand portfolios expand and customer touchpoints multiply, dealerships face mounting pressure to modernize their internal operations in order to sustain efficiency and maintain service standards. Despite the growing complexity of dealer operations, many organizations still rely on outdated systems that restrict visibility and impede effective decision-making.”

Tohme added that dealerships in the region commonly operate across multiple disconnected platforms covering sales, finance and aftersales functions. Manual processes and data silos remain widespread. These operational shortcomings carry measurable business consequences, as shown by the following industry data:
  • Dealers lose as much as 37 percent of online leads due to missed or delayed follow-up.
  • Only 1 percent of consumers describe the car-buying experience as ideal.
  • 45 percent of customers say they would consider switching car brands because of unsatisfactory aftersales service.
  • In this environment, addressing operational inefficiencies has become a priority for preserving performance and sustaining customer confidence.

The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia recorded new-vehicle sales growth of 19.1 percent and 6.6 percent respectively in 2024. These rates positioned both markets among the fastest-growing automotive markets globally. That year, the two countries together sold 1.16 million new vehicles, representing a combined market value exceeding $80 billion. The expansion has been supported by rising consumer demand and sustained government investment in mobility and vehicle electrification.

“There is a growing consensus among dealers that more effective use of data and digital tools is essential to strengthening operational efficiency,” Tohme said. “Dealerships require clearer, real-time visibility across sales, finance and aftersales workflows, along with more consistent application of customer and vehicle data to enable faster decisions and reduce reliance on manual processes.”

Keyloop has observed that many dealers across the Middle East are re-evaluating data flows within their organizations as sales volumes increase, brand portfolios broaden and regulatory requirements become more stringent. Several broader industry trends are also contributing to the operational pressures facing automotive retailers. These include the rapid entry of new brands and business models, the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles, and rising policy and regulatory demands concerning data governance, reporting and customer transparency. The UAE currently leads the GCC in electric vehicle penetration at 6 percent. These developments highlight the need for dealers to build more resilient and adaptable internal processes.

As the Middle East experiences robust sales growth, advancing electrification and evolving government policies, the strategic application of data and digitization is expected to play an even greater role in enabling dealers to meet market demands.
