Ferrari on Monday unveiled the interior of its first fully electric sports car, naming the model Luce, Italian for “light,” in a move that signals the luxury automaker’s push into electrification while preserving its performance heritage.

The announcement came during an event in San Francisco hosted by Ferrari and LoveFrom, the creative collective founded by Sir Jony Ive and designer Marc Newson. The two have collaborated with Ferrari for five years on the vehicle’s design, including materials, ergonomics and user interface.

Ferrari described Luce as more than a technological shift. The name represents a philosophy where electrification serves as a means to inspire rather than an end in itself. Company officials emphasized a blend of tradition and innovation, with the car uniting the brand’s racing legacy and timeless sports car spirit with modern demands.

The interior prioritizes a clean, focused cabin layout treated as a single cohesive volume. Designers simplified forms to support driving, creating a calm and spacious environment. Hardware and software developed in tandem ensure physical controls and digital interfaces work in harmony.

Key elements include a three-spoke steering wheel inspired by 1950s and 1960s Nardi designs, crafted from 100% recycled aluminum with exposed spokes and precision machining. It weighs 400 grams less than a standard Ferrari wheel. Controls feature analogue modules for intuitive operation, with feedback refined through extensive testing.

A standout feature is the starting ritual: a glass key made from Corning Gorilla Glass 5, embedded with an E Ink display, docks into the central console. Insertion triggers a color change and illuminates displays, building anticipation.

The driver binnacle, which moves with the steering wheel, incorporates two overlapping OLED screens for crisp graphics and depth effects via strategic cutouts. A swiveling control panel orients toward driver or passenger, with a palm rest for blind operation.

A micro-engineered multigraph display offers modes including clock, chronograph, compass and launch control, blending watchmaking precision with automotive function. The shifter, also in Gorilla Glass, uses laser-etched graphics for durability and elegance.

Materials emphasize authenticity and longevity. Aluminum components receive advanced anodization for vibrant, enduring finishes. Glass elements provide scratch resistance and optical clarity. Ferrari worked with its Styling Centre, led by Flavio Manzoni, to meet production constraints while honoring LoveFrom’s vision.

When is Ferrari Luce full exterior reveal?

The full exterior reveal is scheduled for May in Italy, with the vehicle positioned as a significant addition to the lineup.

The Luce represents Ferrari’s commitment to leading through innovation, illuminating new paths in automotive design and performance.
