The ultimate luxury grand tourer has become even more powerful, refined and desirable. The new Bentley Continental GT features a groundbreaking new design in its fourth generation.

Team autodrift were lucky to be invited to an exhilarating track day at the Dubai autodrome to experience the new and improved Bentley Continental GT. While, words can never truly explain what driving the new Continental GT on the track feels like but here is a quick snapshot of what to expect.

Bentley Continental GT specs

Powered by a unique Ultra Performance Hybrid V8 engine, it delivers an impressive 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque and 782 PS (771 bhp).

This new Bentley Continental GT accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds) and reaches an extraordinary top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h). In essence, it sets a new benchmark for grand tourers once again.

Why is this generation so much better?

The new Bentley Continental GT has better weight distribution that has eased the strain on the front end. This itself would make a difference but the new rear-end steering system is what makes this GT far more responsive.

Earlier, you could feel the rear of the car trailing along a bit when you take a sharp bend, but this generation has taken cues from the phrase “The car is you, You are the car”. The pivot has been extra ordinary. The car feels much stiffer on the track and much more responsive.

Bentley Continental GT drive modes

We exited the pit lane on the Comfort mode, the car drives the first few seconds on an EV only mode and then switches to the V8 engine power. There is a landmark difference between the Comfort mode driving and the Sport mode driving.

While the windows are heavily insulated, you’ll still hear the powerful engine rumbles and roars in the comfort mode. There is no road noise and minimal engine sounds. Ideal for a daily driving experience and we did have some fun with it on the track but the real fun began when we switched to the Sport mode.

Our conversation with the Bentley racing team prior to us getting on the track confirmed the new technology combined with the drivetrain has some aces up its sleeve. The Sport mode is ideal for more spirited driving, it increases throttle response and tightens up the suspension for better handling.

The engine sounds like thunder and the car moves like lightning. The downshift sounds are something that Mozart would be proud of. It is a great work of art (sound engineering at its finest).

On the international circuit, if you are able to approach the Back Straight at a speed of 110 km or higher, you can easily accelerate to 275 km well before the braking point (approx 150 meters before the apex). The new braking system can easily get you to 90 km, where you can take the hairpin bend and move on to the higher turns of the track with confidence, power and loud downshifts.

We did some cool down laps and returned to the pits. Safe to say, no one wanted to go home, at least not without a Bentley.

What an experience!!
