2020 VW Teramont: Review, Specs and Price in UAE

VW Teramont and Jamal Khan were the two legends I had the pleasure of spending my last weekend with. In the world of full size crossovers, the Teramont is the un-crowned King and Jamal’s driving passion has taken him across 3 continents and 22 countries, making him the King of Adventure. One of his memorable trips started from UAE and ended in the Swiss Alps.

Teramont first went on sale in the UAE in the year 2018. It was VW‘s first 7 seater and a fairly successful one. Over the past couple of years, minor upgrades have made the VW Teramont even more desirable.

We reviewed the top trim (3.6L SEL – R-Line) of the Teramont. It is purposely built for large families who like to travel in comfort and luxury. While it is equipped with an All-Wheel drive system and a decent amount of ground clearance, this vehicle is not much of an off-roader. Best to keep the adventures to easy trails and hard packed sand.

Handling, suspension and overall driving dynamics are pretty solid. Steering wheel is super soft and the automatic engine transmission is responsive. The driver can chose from three drive modes (Eco, Normal and Sport). The Teramont has enough power to deliver a fast acceleration while seating a full load of 7 passengers.

Ride quality for all passengers is A – grade. People sitting in the second and third row have a bit of body roll to deal with but its all within acceptable levels. The entire cabin feels insulated from wind and road noise. With a nice lullaby, the kids in the back can quickly doze off.

For driver assistance, the vehicle is equipped with a top class Navigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Over Head Camera, Blind Spot Monitoring, Parking Assist and Rear Traffic Alert.

Jamal tried to tear down an empty straight road and achieved the 0 -100 km timing in about 8 seconds (Sport Mode). The overall fuel economy is good. You would be spending a little over 8 liters for 100 kilometers travelled. Top speed is 260 km per hour. While the car feels generally stable, we don’t recommend going over the legal speed limit in any case.

Interior:

The cabin of the VW Teramont is full of premium materials. Seats are ventilated and are made up of Vienna leather. There is ample head and leg room for all three rows of seating.



There is an 8 inch Pro touchscreen navigation system, a powerful audio system, bluetooth phone connectivity and USB charging for all three rows of seating.



Teramont has AC vents in all three rows with Tri-Zone climate control. Access to the 3rd row is very easy, you can do it with one hand. Just fold the 2nd row forward with a pull and a push. Coolest feature for me is the giant panoramic sunroof. It slides all the way back and fills the cabin with natural sunlight.



The Teramont allows for space when you need it. Comfort comes first with three rows of seats, ensuring enough room for everyone and everything. In comparison to other cars in its class, the luggage space is the biggest (even with all three rows of seating in place).

It is hard to believe how affordable the new Volkswagen Teramont is. The space and luxury offered in the vehicle is truly unmatched. The top trim R-Line is priced at AED 195,000 including VAT and we find it quite a bargain.
