2020 Porsche 718 Cayman S: Review, Specs, Price in UAE

Can I go on and say that I haven’t driven many mid-engine sports cars better than the 2020 Porsche Cayman S? It is for cars like these that many envy my job as a motorsports journalist. Being one of the entry-level cars from Porsche, the 718 Cayman S has a lot of character. It feels and behaves mature for its age and lets admit, it looks beautiful from every angle. The 2020 Porsche Cayman S has proper race car driving dynamics. Being a rear wheel drive and more weight in the back, you can take on corners at high speeds with precision and stability. Even if you are not a motorsports / racing fan, this car will drag you to the race track. It is so special! Ever since Porsche reduced the engine size from a 6 cylinder to a 4 cylinder engine for the Cayman, there was an outcry from purists that the sound is not the same anymore. Many accused it being similar to the Toyota Supra. It might be slightly true when the car is idling but at high rpm, it sounds much mature and explosive with the firebacks. It is the apocalyptic year 2020 and some people still believe that Porsche 718 Cayman S is not a daily driver. I have to strongly disagree. While this car is fun, it is also super easy to drive. In about 4 days of me driving on different terrains, I can safely conclude that the ride comfort is fairly high for a sports car. The Porsche 718 Cayman S rides low but not that low that you’d be worried about scrapping it on every other speed bump. Also, the fuel economy is commendable, it only uses 8.5 Liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers driven. I admit that once you drive the 718 Cayman S on the Sport mode, there is no going back. It accelerates quickly, behaves well on the sharpest turns and sounds like a hungry predator on a kill. But as a daily driver, the normal drive mode is more suitable. It shifts gears early, saves fuel and the acceleration response doesn’t lag much. 0 – 100 km per hour acceleration is clocked at 4.4 secs and it will push you back in your seat. Straight line or sharp bends, the 718 Cayman S experience is heart-racing and the best part is driver control, you don’t even feel that you are going too fast.

Even if you forget that the 718 Cayman S is a driver’s car, its cabin would remind you instantly. It is that basic but seats are comfortable though. The driver display, steering wheel and well-placed controls give the Cayman’s cabin a sports car feeling. Information gauges are simple and there are quite a few hard plastic surfaces around that really need improvement. The Cayman’s infotainment system is straightforward and offers users a handy navigation and only Apple CarPlay. There is no Android Auto. Considering its size, the luggage space on the 718 Cayman S is pretty decent. You can fit in a couple of large suitcases in the front and a small one in the back.
