A whole lot has pleasantly changed for the Land Rover Discovery Sport in the last few years. It is however, still robust and popular but no longer the metal box that looked much like the Defender back in the days. Today, it looks more like a vehicle from the Range Rover line up. For the year 2020, nearly 60% of the Discovery Sport’ parts have been modified or updated. In a way, it feels like a full redesign, with a complete transformation inside the cabin.
The vehicle we test drove was in Fuji white with a black contrast roof. The two-tone exterior makes the Discovery a feast for the eyes. On the inside, the trim was Light Oyster/Ebony Windsor with a leather interior. We also had the Black Exterior Pack that gave our Discovery Sport gloss black detailing on the grille, mirror caps, bonnet & tailgate script.
This Land Rover appeals equally to all-terrain enthusiasts and the everyday family that rarely leave the well paved city roads. You can easily say best of both worlds; it is perfect for everyday city driving and also dominates the rough terrain.
The absolute best part of driving the Discovery Sport is its handling. The steering wheel is responsive and the vehicle exhibits amazing confidence even on a fast, sharp bend. Full points to the adaptive suspension, that features a dynamic stability control and all terrain progress control. Overall, the vehicle feels stable even at high speeds.
As a popular AutoDrift custom, we did the 0-100 km per hour dash test (in the sport mode and with the AC off) and found our best time to be 9.5 seconds. If you are a better driver, you can probably shave off half a second. Even on the SPORT mode, the acceleration felt laggy.
In addition to the normal drive modes, you can also run on the ECO and SPORT modes. Fuel Economy is best calculated at 9 liters per 100 kilometers on longer drivers and with the ECO mode on. This is where the Land Rover needs to improve a bit.
In other parts of the world, Land Rover offers the Discovery Sport in hybrid models as well but unfortunately this isn’t the case in UAE. We only get the petrol engine variants and I also think there isn’t much demand for hybrid cars in the UAE just yet. There are nearly a dozen trims on the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the one we tested was the HSE Sport( R-Dynamic)
The Land Rover Discovery Sport has a great looking front end. It is all about the gloss black grille, premium LED headlights with signature daytime running lights.
While the Land Rover Discovery Sport does not ride too high, there is a convenient side step to help easy hopping in and out.

Interior:
Hopping into the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport instantly reminds you of the familiar Range Rover Evoque cabin. The cabin has black headlining and offers premium, sustainable materials and modern connected configurations.
In the front we have 16 way adjustable seats (with memory). They are hot and cold ventilated, have leather upholstery and are super comfortable.
The driver gets 12.3 inch TFT instrument cluster, a 10.2 inch infotainment screen that delivers sharp visuals and a state of the art navigation system. A key feature I found missing is the Head Up Display, for a car of this stature, it was dearly missed.
There is wireless charging, Apple Car Play and Android Auto smartphone integration options with front and rear usb power charging points.
Adding to the already great ambience inside the Discover is the MERIDIAN™ sound audio system with 11 speakers including subwoofers that generate a 380 Watt output. You can have your own mini concert in there.
Here in the UAE, the Land Rover Discovery Sport still seats 5 people but offers unparalleled cargo space. There is enough head and leg room for all passengers. The second row seats are comfortable and long rides are actually something to look forward to.
There is a cabin air quality sensor, cabin air ionizing and 2-Zone climate control to ensure no one in the rear feels the UAE summer heat. Even if you open the fixed panoramic roof, the AC works perfectly fine and keeps the whole cabin at cool.
Loaded with driver focused tech and safety features, there are seven air bags inside the cabin. (Front – driver and front passenger), knee (driver), side curtain, driver and front passenger and second row.
The luggage space is big. I mean bigger than probably any vehicle in its class. Definitely bigger than the Mercedes GLC and the BMW X3 who are its closest vanilla competitors.
