The 2020 Kia Pegas is a five-door sub-compact debuted in 2017 at the Auto Shanghai Show. Recently entered the competitive subcompact market, this car is here to make a difference. The Pegas is currently on the 1st generation and is performing great as an entry-level car within the emerging markets. This car is targeted to young audiences who are seeking to get from point A to point B. However, this vehicle does a great job of filling in the gaps among its fleet members and takes a head-on approach against its competitors.
My first impression of the Kia Pegas is that it is cost-effective, affordable, and value-oriented. This car is built with the intention of having only the essential features for a daily commuter. Hence this helps to maximize its output as compared to its cost. Although this car has only one trim, you have the option to pick from the two transmissions:
5-speed Manual
4-speed Automatic
The 2020 Kia Pegas is built with a short wheelbase with well-selected equipment. This vehicle has been dominating among its competitors. I decided to pick the 4-speed automatic to ease me from shifting gears.
Driving this car is smooth and has a great response among the low to mid gears. At higher speeds, the vehicle emits a loud noise within the cabin since the engine is small. The Pegas is a wonderful city car for cruising, but taking it on the highway requires a little push. The Macpherson strut installed on the front and rear suspensions. These suspensions are great on a flat smooth road and can easily absorb a bump on the way. I would not recommend driving this car on uneven terrain due to its stiff suspensions. Since the suspensions are stiff, every bump on the path can be felt. However, Kia Pegas has excellent handling on sharp turns due to its narrow body, keeping you well mounted in your seat.
Specs:
Engine: 1.4 Liter – 4 Cylinder MPI
Horsepower: 95 Bhp
Torque: 132 Nm
Drive System: Rear Wheel Drive
Transmission: 4 Speed Automatic Transmission
The Pegas is available only in one trim with an optional transmission, the 5-speed manual, and 4-speed automatic. The specification of the engine remains the same for both. This vehicle is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a 95 bhp horsepower with a torque output of 132 Nm. The Pegas can accelerate a 0-100 kph in 13.1 seconds with a top speed of 170 km/hr. This car wobbles when driving it above 120 km/hr. The fuel economy measures 6.1 kmpl l for the city, while 13.18 kmpl for the highway, which is efficient.
Exterior:
The design of the front grille is a razor-sharp thin strip of mesh between the hood and bumpers. The front bumper is broad, creating a high waistline protecting the body. However, within the front bumper, the air intake panels are large, making it aerodynamic. The bumper is also equipped with projection fog lamps for a better vision during night time.
The headlamps are standard.
Currently displayed is a 14-inch alloy wheel, but you have the option to pick a 14-inch steel wheel as well. The standard includes electric mirrors, LED side repeaters, and chrome door handles.
The back of the vehicle has a low trunk opening with a pole-type antenna sticking out at the center.
Interior:
The Kia Pegas has a smart interior design, keeping everything simple. The dashboard is made from hard plastic, seemingly uncluttered with only essential equipment.
The steering is wrapped with synthetic leather giving you a comforting feeling while driving also installed with audio remote steering-control. Just behind the steering is a 2.8-inch LCD gauge cluster, which makes driving safer. The gauge displays essential information of the engine, such as fuel economy, speed, and maintenance messages.
At the center is a well-equipped 7-inch infotainment system consisting of features such as Android Auto, Apple Carplay, and voice-over Bluetooth settings. The system also consists of rear parking sensors and a manual climate controller.
The seats are comfortable with enough headroom and legroom to stretch. The level of comfort is taken to another level with the added driver’s armrest. Unfortunately, the seat height cannot be lowered as the mounting points are fixed, and this option is unavailable. The rear space can comfortably accommodate five adult passengers with ample space to stretch their legs.
The trunk is wide with a low opening, making it easy to lift luggage bags in or out of the vehicle. The total cargo volume is 475-liter, but this can be expanded by folding the 60/40 split seats.
Additional Feature:
- Advanced Driving Assistance
- Emergency braking
- Four airbags
The Kia Pegas is priced in UAE as follows:
