Volvo S90 T6 R Design is the finest luxury sedan developed by the Swedish automotive manufacturer in years. Bold and classy looks borrowed from the XC90 have been well adapted to create a stylish mid-size sedan.
If I were blindfolded, seated and driven around in the the S90, I would have thought I am riding in either a Mercedes-Benz E class, BMW 5 Series, Lexus ES or an Audi A6. It is that calm, spacious and luxurious. Talk about challenging competition!
Just like they say, don’t judge a book by its cover, the same way you can’t judge the S90 because its a Volvo. I drove the car for a week in the city and quite a bit on the highway to test its metal. Balancing between comfort and precision is tricky, I think the S90 does a great job in doing just that.
The steering response is quick, thanks to the front aluminum double wishbone suspension. To make the car smoother and more stable on all surfaces, the rear integral link suspension keeps weight to a minimum. With stiff springs and dampers, the S90 T6 R-Design delivers a sharper driving experience.
From an engine technology point, the Volvo S90 T6 has a unique combination of both Turbocharging and Supercharging. The Supercharger supplies the car with instant boost and at high speeds, the Turbo kicks in taking the performance at another level.
Fuel Economy on the Volvo S90 is excellent. 13 kms per liter in the city and 18 km while on the highway.
Let’s look at the specs.
Engine: 2.0 Liter 4 cylinders T6
Horsepower: 320 Bhp
Torque: 400 Nm
Drive System: All Wheel Drive
Seating Capacity: 5
Main stay of the S90 exterior is its sharp styling and a bold grille.
Precise attention to detail, premium materials and uncluttered cabin design creates a unique feeling of modern luxury in the S90.
A first glance, the cabin looks a lot more sporty than it actually is. The contour seats are Nappa Leather/Nubuck with a charcoal color theme and the steering wheel has metallic gearshift paddles behind.
Seating for the rear occupants is spacious with a lot of advanced options to install baby seats or child booster seats.
The infotainment touch screen is installed in a portrait format that means less scrolling and more swiping. With crisp graphics and bold fonts, maps and apps easy to read. 360 camera visuals are sharp and you can park the car in & out using the infotainment system controls. Driver assist features and the air conditioner is also controlled by the same system.
Highlight however is the voice control function that recognizes natural speech and lets you operate climate control, navigation, media and the phone.
Volvo S90 boasts an award winning Bowers & Wilkins sound system that comes with stainless steel speaker grilles. The audio is clear and precise with an impressive feature being the unique subwoofer. Made partly from carbon fibre, it draws air in from outside the car to create deep, resonant bass.
The luggage space in the S90 is a bit disappointing but the truck has a power lift gate.
