The new 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure has eye-catching looks, improved off roading dynamics, an all-wheel drive and more advanced safety features. Compared to previous or even the 2018 model, the new RAV4 looks like a very different car. Its styling, character and off-road skills represent a strong change from the previous generations.
An important highlighting of the RAV4 Adventure is its handling and its drive feel because it responds well to sharp turns. It also dominates the straight road at high speeds even when there are crosswinds. The full sized steering wheel tricks you into believing that you might be driving a bigger SUV though.
For its off-road capability, the Toyota RAV4 Adventure gets full points for being an all-wheel drive and in case you need it, a hill descent control system. The off-road vehicle settings for “Mud & Sand,” “Rock & Dirt” and “Snow” are adjustable using controls next to the gear shaft.
Higher ground clearance on the Toyota RAV4 Adventure has its benefits. We easily cruised the hard packed sands of AlQudra Lakes and then took the car up to the mountains of Fujairah on inclined gravel trails. An added advance of high clearance is saving your car from scrapping the mall carparks blocks, for instance.
The 8 speed automatic transmission and the 4 cylinder engine have teamed up well to ensure the up / down gear shifts are hardly noticeable. It however falls a little short on acceleration. Driving on Eco and Normal modes felt something is lacking, even the Sport mode on the car feels sluggish at times.

The exterior design statement makes the Toyota RAV4 Adventure stand out in the ever increasing line up of conservative, compact, crossover SUVs in the market. RAV4 designers took inspiration from elementary geometry and turned away the stereo typical curvy, soap-bar shapes that have become synonymous to crossover SUVs. They successfully fused in angles and muscles using various octagons, trapezoids and other geometrical shapes for the front, sides and rear of the car. 2019 RAV4 looks edgy and aggressive. The car we test drove was gray in color with excellent two-tone paint giving shades of purple at night. It looked handsome, ready for outdoor and not so masculine to drive away potential women buyers. From the jutting, trapezoidal grille to the aggressive wheel arches, there are bold statements everywhere.Interior:
The moment Atif and Jamal, our designated test drivers sat in the RAV4, they asked if this car is built for millennials? The RAV4 has one of the most fun and energizing interiors for an SUV with every flat surface in the car having classy geometric designs embossed on to them. Material used on the seats and most of the interior is SofTex (faux-leather). The overall interior trim is made up of neutral earthy tones . There is a a splash of orange here and there looks aesthetically pleasing and keeps the energy levels up. The driver gets extra storage space for a wallet, sunglasses or maybe an iPhone just towards the left of the steering wheel. The passengers has more cupboard kind of space on the dash in front. There are pretty obvious tech upgrades in the infotainment department of the car. It is definitely better than before and even features a wireless charging pad. Climate control is regularized by two round knobs. The central infotainment screen is 8.0-inches and while its multimedia system isn’t the fastest; the touchscreen adds a bit of modern game into it.Safety Features:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Automated pre-collision warning system
- Auto-braking with pedestrian detection
- Lane-departure warnings
- Lane-keeping steering assist
